The morphological development of duodenum in fetuses between 60, 90, 120 days of gestation and neonates of Korean native goats was investigated by light microscope.
The resulte were summarized as follow ;
1. The duodenal wall differentiated and divided into epithelium, lamina propria, tunics musculsris and tunica adventitia on 80 days of gestation.
2. Types of the duodenal epithelium were simple columnar in some areas and stratified columnar in others on 80 and 90 days of gestation, however, changed to simple columnar in all areas on 120 days of gestation.
8. The goblet cells appeared in the duodenal epithelium on 60 days of gestation and the intestinal glands appeared on 90 days of gestation. The number of the goblet cells and the intestinal glands were increased gradually during gestational period.
4. The numbers of duodenal villi per cross-sectioned speciman were about 13, 30, 45 and 65 on 60, 90, 120 days of gestation and newborn. The height of the villi increased gradually in gestational period.
